BECOME A MEMBER

Become a Member of Tauranga Archers

To shoot at Tauranga Archers, all participants must be members of the club. Our membership process is designed to ensure everyone on the range understands our safety expectations and can enjoy archery in a safe, supportive environment.

How Membership Works

For most new archers, becoming a full member follows these steps:

  1. Attend a 'Have a go' Day. * +
This introduces you to archery and allows our coaches to assess safety, behaviour, and readiness.
  2. Join the Club.
Complete the membership form and pay the appropriate membership fee.
  3. Pass the Beginners Course. *
This course builds core skills, reinforces safety, and prepares you for full club participation.

Once you have joined, you are considered a Provisional Member until the Beginners Course is completed unless you have been a full member elsewhere.

Experienced Archers & Special Cases

* If you have been a member of another archery club within the past 12 months, you may be able to bypass the Have a Go Day and Beginners Course by providing proof of current or recent membership.

+ If you were previously a member of another club but have not shot for more than 12 months, you will be required to attend a Have a Go Day for assessment. This is a health and safety requirement. If deemed compentant the beginners course will not be required.

Provisional Membership Explained

As a provisional member, you may:

  • Shoot at regular club shooting times.
  • Are eligible to fully participate in club shoots, events, and competitions (where applicable)
  • Use club wooden take‑down recurve bows (the same equipment used during Have a Go Days)
  • Shoot from 15 metres, progressing up to 18 metres as approved by coaches.

Please note:

  • We strongly recommend not purchasing your own equipment until you have completed the Beginners Course.
  • Sight aids are not recommended before completing the course.

Provisional membership allows you to gain experience while continuing to learn safe and correct technique.

Full Membership

You become a Full Member once you have successfully completed the Beginners Course.
